Philips Research has created a 13.56 MHz RFID tag based on plastic electronics. This RFID chip can be printed on  a plastic substrate with an antenna. The development will pave the way for replacement of the existing bar codes with low cost RFID tags that prove individual packages with unique item level identification codes.PolyIC, a German start up , has developed faster 600KHz plastic RFID tags. These chips can function after being stored for two days at a temperature of 60°C and at 100% humidity and will continue to work until the temperature climb above 120°C.
