An electronic nose can recognize the unique cocktail of volatile organic compounds that S.aureus strains excrete.It analyze the ensuing gas samples by passing the gas over an array of electrodes coated with different conducting polymers.Each electrode reacts to particular substances by changing its electrical resistance in characteristic way.Combining the signals from electrodes generates a smellpoint of the chemicals in mixture, which can be detected using the neural network software built into the e-nose.The food industry can use the e-nose to root out rotten ingredients.e-nose can also be used to detect early signs of pneumonia in patients.
