Organic photonics takes advantage of plastics unique properties - emission of photons rather than electrons. It involves generating and harnessing light and other forms of of radiant energy whose quantum unit is the photon.Applications range from energy generation and detection to communications and information processing. With the increasing use of fibre optic technology, communications and data transmission have reached speeds unheard of only a few years ago.But most most optic fiber lines still end short of residential users. The majority of homes still have old fashioned copper wiring and signal slows down dramatically when i hits that copper wire.
